Our 2019-20 mentoring year began with a welcome reception for all our new mentees and mentors. It was fantastic to welcome back the outgoing 2018-19 cohort and hear how well their mentoring had gone and to pass on some top tips to the incoming group. New mentees were encouraged to drive the mentoring process and to speak up as to where they want help from their mentor.

Huge congratulations to our former mentee and Channel 4 News reporter Anja Popp for winning the RTS Young Talent of the Year award on Wednesday evening.

Many congratulations to our trustee Kate Riley who completed the Thames Meander Half Marathon in two hours and twenty minutes. This was a fantastic result and we are very grateful to everyone who sponsored Kate. In total she raised just over £2,000. The money will go towards continuing the mission of the John Schofield Trust to combat social mobility in UK newsrooms. Well done Kate!

Our income comes solely from our fundraising. We don’t charge any application or joining fees to our participants. All mentors and speakers at our events are volunteers.

Our goal is to s...

We are excited that, in partnership with Brightside, we have launched an online mentoring scheme for 17-year-olds living and/or studying in disadvantaged areas. The scheme will give sixth form students a flavour of what it’s really like to work in the news industry. We have designed activities about the news industry and created a library of resources, including clips of past participants on our face-to-face mentoring scheme explaining...
